The attractive Aegean city of Manisa is located very close to Izmir and retains many fine examples of Seljuk and Ottoman architecture. Donated by Ayse Sultana, mother of Suleyman the Magnificent, was the Sultan Mosque in the early 16th Century built. Kula House Every April, on the surroundings of the mosque, a festival held to celebrate Macunu think, a sticky elixir that supposedly cured the sultan’s ailing mother. Muradiye mosque was in the famous Ottoman architect Sinan from 16th Century design. The annual Harvest Festival begins in September. The most famous of the region at every step, “Izmir sultanas are here growed. South of the city lies the Sipil Dagi National Park, home of the famous “weeping rock” of Niobe. If you travel to the Northeast to get to Gordes, a pleasant town particularly known for its fine carpets.
