How to Train Tickets Buy in Turkey
You can buy your Intercity train shortly before the trip, but it is wise to store reserve your place (s) at least one or two days in advance if possible.
During the holiday season, it is important to book in advance to the seat or compartment on the train you prefer safe.
Please note: train seat and sleeping berth reservation more than 15 days will be announced in advance, and tickets issued and paid for at the time of booking. In other words, you can not reserve your seat or sleeping compartment for more than two weeks in advance and you must pay in full if your seat (s reserve) or bed (s) on the train.
For sleeping, I would suggest reservations at least several days in advance if possible. If you can reserve one or two weeks in advance, do it just to be safe.
The Turkish State Railways (TCDD or DDY) site is a work online booking and ticket purchase, but I’ve never been able to make it work. The online registration is live developed for Turkish nationals in Turkey, as if foreign visitors were not an important segment of travelers in Turkey! It onlyworks with computers with Microsoft products: Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. The process itself on the English portion of the Site-TCDD is at least partly in Turkish.
So we have foreign visitors buy tickets in person at a station or a TCDD TCDD-authorized travel agents (of which there are not many).
You can guarantee your tickets and sleeping car accommodations prior to arrival in Turkey, pay by credit card, with this agent for the Turkish State Railway Train (and sleeping) reservations in Istanbul:
Tur-ISTA Tourism Travel Agency, Sultanahmet
It is a good idea to also use this full-service travel agency for your other arrangementsin Turkey: hotels, tours, cruises, car rentals, guides, etc.
The price can you pay to an agency be slightly higher than the published fares, the agency for their work you do to compensate you and show your tickets. Selling train tickets is not really a profitable business.
You also need to get your tickets from the office where you bought them. Unfortunately you can not make a reservation through an agency and then you pick up your ticket (s) at the station (at least not yet).
Finally, agencies not authorized to write international train tickets (for travel from Turkey to other countries). International tickets must be written by Turkish State Railways. But an agency may agree to pay for and pick up your ticket in exchange for ausTafel fee (especially when you order other travel services from the agency at the same time.) The fee is necessary because the agency can actually send an employee to the station to to buy your tickets on your behalf.
